About Me

I’m The Rev. Steve Pankey, Rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Bowling Green, KY: a disciple, husband, dad, and priest who struggles to keep it all in the right order.  Thankfully God, my wife, and the Church are all forgiving.  This is my personal blog, not the opinion of The Episcopal Church or Christ Episcopal.

This is mostly a blog about the Bible and how it speaks to my life.  The posts reflect my initial thoughts in preparation for sermons, which are also posted here along with a link to the podcast recording. Please leave comments here or on Facebook, I’d love to redraught my theology by engaging in conversation with you.

The title of this blog comes from

Theology – from the Greek theo meaning “God” and logos meaning “word” – Theology is a word about God.

Draughting – the British variation of draft – here we use it two ways.
1. Draught – verb – to make a blueprint of – our vision of God is never fully formed, the box we use is always too small, on this blog, I strive to hold loosely to what I already have, while always seeking to redraw my understanding of God.
2. Draught – noun – beer from a keg, I reserve the right to have some, and you can too, but always in moderation.

  1. Just found your blog yesterday through Adam Thomas’ blog. Good stuff. But I really wanted to compliment St. Paul’s website. It’s really fantastic – sleek and simple and attractive. Keep up the good work!

  3. Thanks Steve, A great piece to start my day. I had just read something yesterday that stated we have taught or been taught to be “believers” instead of committing to being “followers of Jesus.”

  4. Thank you for helping me keep politics in perspective… Christian perspective. I am bothered by the outpouring of Christian “Right” that sees their way as God’s truth for all… He is so much bigger than that. I truly pray that others will see Jesus in me.

  5. Interesting read about your diocesan convention. We had a similar experience in Western North Carolina about 18 months ago. Our newly appointed commission just made its first report to the convention in November. Bless your journey.

  6. Love your blog! I blog at aileengoeson.com and have a regular column at baptistnews.com. I enjoy your posts so much and appreciate your perspective! Thanks for great content and consistent quality.
